Making Ourselves
20 Letters: #2
This is the second instalment of a series, 20 Letters, where I share letters I wrote and sent via the post, throughout 2020 and 2021, to people in my life. Read more here.
Dear I,
First off, massive congrats on the new job. I knew you'd get something great eventually but I also know how frustrating it was to wait. (I'll skip the clichés about timing, fate, etc. We're impatient people and waiting sucks!)
I want to acknowledge that I was probably too hard on you about your decision to move back to E, away from a seemingly-exotic life in D. I'm so proud of you and your ambitious, risk-taking, no-regrets approach to life that your move back to Canada provoked fear in me. (I won't go into that further because it's moot now that you're moving back overseas; maybe it's a discussion for our next phone or in-person chat, if you want.) Any way, I was recently bragging to a friend about how you have always been my most impressive, professional, barrier-breaking friend. I think I actually said “my good friend I is the BOSS” and they knew what I meant, without knowing you.
